10-11-2006 iNHouse PR appointed by Dyslexia Action

Dyslexia Action, previously The Dyslexia Institute, has brought iNHouse PR on board to help kick-start its public affairs work. The charity hopes to raise the profile of its campaigns with MPs and Peers from across the UK.

Following a successful re-branding exercise and a clear definition of key campaigns, Dyslexia Action believes it is now time to step up its activities targeting politicians and opinion formers. The organisation aims to highlight the £1bn cost of unrecognised dyslexia to the UK economy. In line with the findings of The Education and Skills Select Committee on SEN (July, 2006), for which Shirley Cramer, CEO of Dyslexia Action, gave evidence, it is calling for more ring-fenced funding to ensure better support for children with special Educational Needs (SEN) and the need for better teacher training, enabling them to better identify those children at risk and provide more appropriate support.

The organisation will be looking to launch a revamped newsletter, targeted communications to politicians and ministers and dedicated events in the New Year.

Dyslexia Action's Director of Marketing and Communications, Ann Campbell, said: "We're appointing iNHouse to bolster our public affairs work and support our existing contact with Westminster. iNHouse suit our needs down to the ground. They are enthusiastic, professional and accessible. At our first meeting we dropped our planned agenda to talk through a sudden issue that had come up. iNHouse were able to react immediately, grasping the situation and offering incisive and measured opinion and advice. We felt more confident and more in control having talked things through with them - and there was no need for written strategies and large fees.

"Having iNHouse on board is like having another member of our team."

iNHouse PR Director, Jo Tanner, said: "Dyslexia Action is just the type of organisation that we started our business for. They have fantastic campaigns and strong messages about an extremely important issue that needs to be more central to the public agenda. We hope to bring some new creative ideas to the table so Dyslexia Action can really stand out in its communications with Westminster."
